A culinary experience at the Kรณcbek oil mill

After last year's highly successful culinary event in the heart of Prlekija, the Kรณcbek oil mill was once again visited by Lebanese chef Georges Chihane, who has been living and working in Dubai, the capital of the Arab Emirates, for many years. Last year, he already impressed the guests of the Kocbek oil mill with his creations, who indulged themselves in the culinary delights of intertwining exceptional dishes with the addition of pumpkin and pumpkin oil. Guests tasted dishes with pumpkin oil on a whole new dimension of culinary creativity.

The chef, who comes straight from Dubai, treated guests to pumpkin oil delicacies.

โ€œPumpkin seed oil is not a recognisable product in my home country (Lebanon) because we rely on olive oils to create our dishes. Neither in Dubai, where I live and work. But pumpkin oil, with its unbeatable taste, is so authentic to combine that I got used to it easily. I have tasted many different pumpkin oils in the past during my professional career, but the first time (13 years ago) I came across Kocbek's pumpkin oil, it was the best unique product I have ever tasted.โ€

ABOUT THE CHEF:

Georges Chihane grew up in a family of chefs and is still proudly following in his family's footsteps. He graduated in hotel management in Lebanon and went on to study for a Master's degree in Capitale de la Gastronomie at the Paul Bocuse Institute in Lyon, France. There, he furthered his knowledge of cooking techniques and began his culinary career as a commis chef, where he explored his passion for culinary creativity.

Paul Bakeries soon recognised his talents and invited him to Dubai as Executive Chef for their regional franchise. He went on to gain experience in the Gulf region and opened a number of homegrown concepts in different countries including Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. His current work focuses on managing the culinary development of food distribution, where he is taking the lead as culinary consultant for various hotels and restaurants.ย 

He is a board member of Qatar Culinary Professionals, Emirates Culinary Guild and a certified judge of World Chefs and WACS. He was recently awarded the honorary distinction of Maรฎtre Rotisseur by the iconic Chaines Des Rotisseurs.

European Young Chef - Boลกtjan Volk

Chef Georges Chihane will be accompanied by Boลกtjan Volk, who won first prize at the 7th European Young Chef competition in France last year.

The winner of Europe's first Young Chef Award impressed the jury with his exceptional dessert, placing him at the very top of the young chefs' list. On the day of the culinary dinners, Boลกtjan will make sure that guests can enjoy his highly elaborate Slovenian dessert, which will of course also be intertwined with the story of pumpkin oil!

Boลกtjan Volk, a 25-year-old chef from Pleลกivec, is a remarkable young man who was born into catering. He was born into the Volk family, which has been in the catering business for generations. He loved to ยปskiยซ around the kitchen of his home inn with his mother Tatjana, and his passion for cooking later led him to the Secondary School for Service Activities in Velenje and then to the University of Catering and Tourism in Maribor, where he graduated. An extremely talented chef who incorporates mainly local produce into his dishes, he has won many awards and accolades, most notably a silver medal at the Villeroy & Bosch World Culinary Championships 2022 in Luxembourg.
