Štajersko Prekmursko Pumpkin Oil Slovenia - Differences between light and dark labels Kocbek

Since 2013, Štajersko Prekmursko Pumpkin Oil Slovenia has been an official Slovenian product (protected by a geographical indication), registered in the European Union. There is a long tradition of oil pumpkin cultivation and the processing of pumpkin seeds into pumpkin oil in Styria and Prekmurje, dating back to the 18th century. The first press in Styria, established in Fram in 1750, is testimony to this. The Kocbek oil mill still maintains a tradition of processing that began in 1929. We work with local (domestic) processors and use only raw material (pumpkin seeds) of Slovenian origin.

Styrian-Prekmurje pumpkin oil Slovenia

Light label

Štajersko Prekmursko Pumpkin Oil Slovenia with Protected Geographical Indication is an edible unrefined vegetable oil produced by pressing roasted pumpkin seeds, which are extracted from pumpkins (Cucurbita pepo) and processed in the Štajerska and Prekmurje region. It is dark green to red in colour, with a characteristic aromatic smell and taste*.

At the Kocbek oil mill, we have labelled the Štajerska Prekmurje Pumpkin Oil Slovenia with a light (beige) label (depending on how the pumpkin seeds are ground). In the hot-pressing process for these oils, the seeds are ground in a roller mill, where the rollers are made of metal.

Štajersko Prekmrusko Pumpkin Oil Slovenia labelled under the light-coloured label are intended for sale on the domestic market - at selected sales outlets and retailers.

Styrian-Prekmurje pumpkin oil Slovenia

Dark label

At the Kocbek oil mill, we have labelled the Štajerska Prekmurje Pumpkin Oil Slovenia with a dark (green) label (depending on how the pumpkin seeds are milled).

Oils packaged under the dark colour label are made from seeds that are cleaned and sorted before processing. This is done using a machine that removes impurities (pumpkin flesh, peelings, peeled or damaged seeds - what we picked out of the pumpkin by hand or machine when we harvested the seeds from the pumpkin), resulting in clean and undamaged seeds, which in turn produce oils of the highest possible quality.

The hot-pressing process grinds the seeds into real stones, giving the oil a slightly darker colour, more density and a slightly different taste.

Štajersko Prekmrusko Pumpkin Oil Slovenia marked under the dark-coloured label are intended for sale on foreign markets, in Slovenia only to selected outlets, and in gift sets.
